ABOUT

Welcome to Felicia's Joyful Voice Studio
Each of us has our own voice - our own energy and sound -which is literally a vibration. I enjoy helping students connect with their own vibration of sound in a freeing and relaxing way.
Whether you are looking to enhance your singing voice, develop as a performer, or simply let go of your fears when expressing yourself, I provide tools and methods to strengthen and unfold your natural abilities. My students explore their own personal connection to breath, notes, words, energy, and song. I believe singing and self-expression can and should be empowering and fun...pure and simple. Connecting with one's own sound can also provide much-needed relaxation and relief from an often-stressful world. The Joyful Voice Studio is the place to develop your voice and strengthen your presence in a stress-free, supportive environment.
For over 20 years, I sang jazz professionally as Felicia Carter on the stage and in the studio (some video examples are below), in addition to being a multi-genre songwriter and show writer/producer. My music continues to be featured in film and on television (ranging from PBS to "Riverdale"). Before my jazz career, I sang many styles of music, including punk rock, classic rock, opera, pop, folk, and show tunes. I also enjoyed performing as an actress, with roles ranging from the dramatic (e.g. Lee Bigelow on "Homicide: Life on the Street"), to the clownish/comedic (e.g. Peter in "Peter and the Wolf" with Theatricks.) In the mid-90s, I studied voice with the wonderful opera singer/voice instructor Margot Bos Stambler. Following Margot's passing in 2000, I continued my vocal studies with Margot's own teacher and mentor, Susan Dash - traveling regularly to the DashVoice studio in Pennsylvania for nearly a decade. Through my own studies and constant work as a performer, I gained great knowledge about the mechanics of singing, performing on a stage, recording in the studio, maintaining a healthy voice, and the utmost importance of "telling the story".
With over 30 years of performing arts experience, it is with gratitude that I now share my knowledge with my students. It is my joy and privilege to help others on their own journey of self-expression.
